In July 2000, fresh out of a successful entrepreneurial experience, David Marcus was pondering the future. He was convinced that mobile messaging was going to be a big business. He followed his instinct, launched Echovox in Geneva, and began the development and deployment of a pan-European network to connect mobile operators for short messaging service (SMS), multimedia-messaging service (MMS), and event based billing.

Within three years, the Company grew to become one of the top three SMS aggregators in Europe and the preferred messaging partner of Europe's leading media groups such as Reuters and RTL. In 2004, the Company launched a program targeting telecom companies with no or limited premium SMS/MMS capabilities. The program was successful; Echovox signed partnering agreements with British Telecom, Opera Telecom (UK), and Itel (Norway). Revenues grew from $1.8 million in 2001 to reach $12 million.

While revenues were growing, so were competition and the
consequent immense downward pressure on margins. It was time to diversify. David approached Ossama Hassanein for advice. Sensing in David unique human and entrepreneurial characteristics, Ossama invested $5 million in Echovox and joined the board as non-executive chairman.

With financing, Echovox completed the acquisition of a mobile content distribution company and launched m-Boost, a self-provisioning white-label mobile content storefront. In early 2006, it accelerated the development of zong.com, the first self-provisioning automated premium SMS platform. The product was released in late 2006 in nine countries. By 2007, Zong became a rising star with thousands of entrepreneurs using it to deliver mobile services to their clients and communities in 12 European countries. In April 2008, Zong was officially launched in the US.

Today, Echovox provides a wide range of standardized and tailored mobile media solutions from entertainment content delivery through to interactive services such as mobile voting, chat, quizzes and complex mobile entertainment applications. It enjoys a privileged strategic relationship with Europe’s leading media group M6 (RTL) in France. Its target market is forecast to grow to $1 billion by 2010. Correspondingly, the Company's revenues are expected to double in each of the next two years.
